CHAPEL IS BACK IN SERVICE

An ancient Northamptonshire chapel has opened its doors to Sunday worshippers once more after years of occasional use.

The Jesus Fellowship is holding its community worship services at Bugbrooke Chapel, in the High Street.

In recent years, only baptisms, weddings and funerals have taken place in the 200-year-old chapel, which is a listed building.

John Campbell, from the Jesus Fellowship, said: 'This is worship for the neighbourhood. Instead of meeting in a large congregation, smaller groups are meeting in places such as Bugbrooke and Daventry.'

'We are holding them two Sundays out of three. It's more local to people. We will in due course hold services in the old Cannon cinema in Northampton as well.'

Services are being run on a trial period for the foreseeable future with the next on Sunday.

John Curtis, from Bugbrooke, said: 'Hopefully, this is a sign the chapel might once again become a focal point of village life.'

'There are many who would support a service in the chapel that appealed to the whole community.'

'The chapel has stood on the High Street for nearly 200 years and has been a role model for the village for many generations.'
