JESUS ARMY ON THE MARCH

The controversial Jesus Fellowship religious sect, based at Bugbrooke, is throwing its net wider and opening a centre in London.

Next week the Fellowship, which has more than 600 members, will start its first Jesus Army Campaign in the capital, followed by a march through the West End and a massive rally in Trafalgar Square.

The rally will be held on Wednesday and the march will take place three days later, with a letter being delivered to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at Downing Street asking for her to help in the fight against social evils.

The Fellowship's golden marquee will be pitched in Battersea Park and Noel Stanton, the Baptist minister who founded the Fellowship, said today that they had been active in London for some time.

He added: 'We expect to open our first London house in the Notting Hill area in two or three months time. We have helped many people in London, some of whom have joined us and tens of thousands of people, especially young runaways, are in moral and social need.'
